Which catcher will fit my mower?

This is a common question at Accelerator, and the answer can vary depending on your mower. Mower decks are constantly changing, and we work hard to keep our database up to date.

Start by using our , which asks for basic information about your mower. Ideally, it will provide the correct Accelerator part number so you’re ready to order. In some cases, it may indicate that we don’t offer a catcher for your mower—this can be due to deck shape, tire placement, or other factors.

If more information is needed, the Mower Finder may prompt you to fill out our Mower Info Form. It will require you to take photos of your deck. Our team will review your submission and provide a recommendation.

Please note: Accelerator catchers are deck-specific. A catcher that fits one mower likely won’t fit another.

I don’t see my mower on your mower finder, what do I do?

Not seeing your mower listed doesn’t necessarily mean we don’t have a catcher for it. For older, uncommon, or unlisted mowers, please fill out our Mower Info Form. It collects details about your mower and photos of the discharge opening. Our team will review your submission and provide a recommendation.

Can I use a catcher on more than one mower?

In most cases, no. While our catchers may look similar, the openings differ in shape, length, height, and hook-and-pin placement—each designed to fit a specific mower. Because of this, they typically won’t be compatible with other models.

There are a few exceptions; for example, some Scag catchers may fit certain Ferris mowers. You may also have better luck if you purchase a new mower from the same brand, though this is not guaranteed.

While a universal catcher would be convenient, we prioritize a precise fit for your mower. What makes our catchers unique is that each one is carefully tailored, and we take pride in the work that goes into ensuring the perfect fit.

What are the catchers made of?

Accelerator catchers are made of high quality, extruded aluminum, sheet aluminum and perforated aluminum. This is why our catchers weigh so little and won’t rust.

I often see the size in cubic feet. How does this translate into bushels.

One cubic foot = .8 bushels

How much does the catcher weigh when full?

Obviously, this varies greatly by how much grass you pack in, and how heavy the grass is. A good rule of thumb is that grass weighs approximately 7-12 lbs per cubic foot. If it is sopping wet it will weigh more. We don’t recommend mowing in the rain but if you have to our catcher is the best option.

I lost my door, can I order one? How do I know which size I need?

You can order a replacement door either through your dealer or by ordering from Accelerator directly. It is important to order the correct door as they are based on your catcher size. See the chart below to decide which part number you need.

Catcher size Door dimensions Part number to use
4.15 cubic ft. Standard sized catchers 16″ x 17″ GCDOOR
6.2 Cubic ft. XL/Jumbo catcher 17″ x 18.5″ GCDOORXL

How do I empty my catcher?

We at Accelerator are proud of our innovative back door design. Some users want the door to remain on the catcher when emptying so they can dump quickly onto a tarp or other open area. Others want to take the door off so they can dump into a bag or garbage can. Our special door design allows for both. Watch a video on how to empty your grass catcher.

To leave the door on: When it is time to empty your catcher, undo the pin on the back door. Take the catcher off the mower and tip it up. The door will swing away leaving a large opening for the clippings to fall out of.

To take the door off: Undo the pin on the back door, then pull the door all the way up until it comes out of the rings at the top of the frame. Next take the catcher off the mower, tip it back, and watch the clippings fall out.

My door tends to stick in the rings, How can I loosen it?

Sometimes the rings on the catcher get slightly tight either in shipping and handling or during use. This can cause the door to be hard to take on and off the catcher. There is an easy remedy for this problem. You need to find a metal pry bar of some type. Slip one end of the bar into the opening on the ring. (This is the part on the front on the ring, not the round parts on the side) Then just pry the rings apart gently but firmly. It doesn’t usually take much stretching to open it up. If it is just a little sticky you can put a couple of drops of oil in the ring to smooth it out.

Will I have to remove my deflector shield?

We work to design our catchers, so you do not have to take off your deflector shield, but that is not always possible. If you do need to take off your deflector shield, be certain you remove the accelerator bracket (if you have the type of catcher that needs one) and securely remount the deflector shield before using your mower without the catcher. This is VERY important to avoid throwing debris and potentially causing an injury to someone nearby.

Will the catcher tilt my deck?

The mower decks are usually heavy enough to handle the weight, if you follow certain guidelines.

  • Do not put an XL catcher on a light weight stamped deck, especially if you are using it for grass clippings (instead of dry leaves). Use a smaller catcher for a smaller mower. We don’t recommend using the XL size on a 36 inch or smaller mower.
  • Do not use the extenders for grass only cutting. They are meant for leaves and may get too heavy when filled with clippings. This can cause tipping and an uneven cut. Use the extenders for dry leaf pickup.
  • If you are mowing in very wet conditions, don’t fill the catcher all the way. Empty it before it gets too heavy.

Can I put an XL catcher on my 36″ or smaller mower?

We do not recommend putting an XL catcher on 36″ or smaller decks. This is because when it is full of grass it becomes quite heavy and may cause the deck to tilt, causing an uneven cut.

Can I use the leaf extender for grass too?

We do not recommend doing this because of the weight of the grass. This system was designed for leaves, and therefore your catcher may not fill all the way with grass. The heavy grass may put strain on the catcher opening causing premature wear. It may also cause the mower to be less stable on hills.

What is the warranty on my catcher?

There is a One-year warranty against weld Breakage. We are aggressive on honoring our warranty and will do whatever we can to assure your satisfaction with our products.
